Tall Candle Head Pumpkin

Only 83 days left until Halloween and the House is planning it's first give away! Don't forget to check in from time to time so you don't miss out on the details. I have a couple of projects I need to finish so that I can give it my full attention. In the mean time I thought I would share one of my paper mache candle pumpkins. Creepy Halloween

Paper Towel Roll Candle, Halloween in July

Only 117 days until Halloween. Last night with fire works exploding above my head, the smell of neighborhood barbeques and sulfur lingering in the air, I felt like the evil doctor as I feverishly worked to finish one of my creepy tree paper towel roll candle projects. This one is a stand alone with wicked wax dripping branches.

Notice the skull face among the roots.

Paper Mache Pumpkin, Halloween in June

Not really , however, there are only 135 days left until Halloween! Summer is a great time to work on props, paper mache, paint, glues all dry faster in warm weather and you don't freeze to death while working outside. Just remember the sun screen. Here is a couple of projects I have been working on for Halloween 2012.



I used a lot of bright color this time on my pumpkins. For those of you that may be first time readers and are not familiar with my pumpkins here is a picture of Mask. He is done in my traditional black and white.


I stumbled upon these Soy Paints while browsing at Jo-Ann's fabric store and fell in love with the brilliant colors. They're eco friendly and mesh well with the handmade, recyclable, reuse, quality of my art. Upon discovering them I immediately wanted to incorporate them into my Halloween decor. This is what I came up with. I will definitely use these paints again.



The pumpkin is painted with Tangerine and dried brushed with sunflower, the candles with Lavender and the mud flower is Kiwi and sunflower.

The pumpkin itself is made from papermache, (news paper strips and paper clay), the candles are created from paper towel rolls and hot glue, and the flower is made from monster mud. Here is a link to how I make paper towel roll candles.




I hope this guy (which I haven't figured out a name for yet) inspires you even though it is only June! Halloween is right around the corner.

Halloween Evil Jester Paper Mache Project Recap and Update

Here I am so far with the Evil Jester pumpkin head with the updated pictures at the bottom of the post. I painted the Jester skull and added some silver glittered bells to both of their hats. He is completely black and white with just a touch of silver on the bells which all work perfectly together with the lighter colors absorbing the reflection of the colored lights directed at him. He should make for a great display come Halloween night.

Halloween How-To Potato Fingerling Creepy Critters

So ugly they're cute! That is what comes to mind when I see these silly little creatures.  Gourds and small pumpkins are a spooktacular addition to a well decorated Halloween table.I enjoy using both in my displays and at my Halloween feast. I came across these Fingerling Potatoes and couldn't help wondering how they would do as a Halloween prop. The only way I was going to find out was to get some and see what happens, so I did. I wasn't all that sure if they would dry up so that they would be useable or if they would just mold and decay. To my surprise and over time they did dry up but, before they did, they did what potatoes do when left to sit, they grew sprouts! Which turn out to be a good thing because it added to the creepiness factor. What you will need.

1) Fingerling Potatoes ( How ever many you want to make)
2) Black beans (with a white dot on them)
3) Carving tool (or small knife)
4) Something to cover your work space with. (even though there is very little mess with this project)

Step 1) Take your carving tool of choice and carve a little hole for the bean.

Step 2) Then add your bean.

Step 3) Repeat on the other side. When you have finished with your other potatoes. They should look like this. They already look creepy just the way they are. They will get even creeper after a couple of weeks and end up looking like these guys.

Just a word of warning. If you do use them for decorations at your Halloween feast make sure your guest don't eat them! Enjoy!
